To be appointed The High Sheriff of Derbyshire for 2021-2022 is a great honour for me. I will be the 10th Lady High Sheriff in the county and I am the first person from Buxton to be appointed in all the history of the Shrievalty, the previous closest was in 1930 and 1946, both from The Bagshaw Family of Ford Hall in Chapel en le Frith.

My installation and swearing in took place virtually using Zoom.

I am passionate about Buxton and the Peak District but I’m very much looking forward to finding out more about the rest of Derbyshire.

Getting to know and finding ways to support the organisations of law and order, the Police and the Judiciary, I really want to celebrate and where I can support and celebrate the volunteers and charities that become more important than ever during the challenges of the pandemic.

I congratulate Tony Walker on his Derbyshire Beacon of Hope initiative to identify and thank groups and individuals who have worked tirelessly to keep our communities safe during the COVID-19 crisis. Also to thank the wonderful NHS health professionals and all the support services.

Apart from the duties of High Sheriff, I will this year be working to raise money for the much-needed refurbishment of the backstage area of the Buxton Opera House and to support the wonderful joint initiative of the Opera House and the Buxton International Festival Platform 3, which is to work with young people throughout Derbyshire to create, perform and learn more about performing arts.

I hope to have contact with many people in Derbyshire and before too long it will be in person rather than on the screen.
